STEAM

What is Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics

(S.T.E.A.M.)?

Through a grant from Trash for Teachers, Stanley Mosk recently opened its S.T.E.A.M. lab.

S.T.E.A.M. Lab - Maker Space Lab

What is a STEAM - Maker Lab?

It’s a maker space that inspires integrative learning in science, technology,

engineering, arts, and mathematics. The maker space in our warehouse is

so well used that we thought we ought to start building similar spaces in

schools so that kids everywhere can create!

Our STEAM Labs are outfitted with tools, materials from our warehouse,

and shelving – and even the shelving is made from re-purposed materials.

A solid math and science foundation coupled with skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and problem solving are crucial for student's success in the 21st century. S.T.E.A.M. is using multiple resources in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics to enhance student motivation by providing authentic contexts for learning.  STEAM enhances and compliments the new Common Core Standards.

Stanley Mosk's S.T.E.A.M. program emphasizes STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) fields  by incorporating:

S.T.E.A.M.-related topics and technology across curricular subjects using a variety of materials such as I-pad Movie Maker, Lego Story Starter, Lego Simple Machines,Lego Mindstorm Robotics, Electronic Story Telling, and Code.org.
